The machine donations included shapers, bandsaws, table saws, jointers, planers and widebelt sanders valued from $1,500 to over $11,000. SCM and Mini Max

gave the machines to WoodLINKS schools, secondary programs and a summer camp to help inspire more students to become involved within the industry.

“Technical program funding is one of the first budget areas to be cut, consequently not allowing these programs to succeed with the proper tools. This is where donations help these programs and their students succeed and prosper,” Thomas Tuck, Marketing Coordinator for SCM Group-USA stated.

Schools receiving the donations included:

Cedar Ridge High School
Harper Creek High School
Janesville High School

Stiles to Redistribute AWFS® Vegas Resources

Stiles Machinery Inc. views the slow economy as an opportunity to re-distribute resources that would have been incurred by participating in AWFS®Vegas this year.

Stiles has been proud to exhibit at every AWFS fair since its inception, but they feel that it is inappropriate to do so this year. The company intends to redirect efforts to support their customers by developing new strategies to weather this economic climate. According to Peter Kleinschmidt, CEO, "We can apply these resources to all customers and not just those who may attend the show."

Stiles wants their customers to do more than simply survive these economic conditions—they want them to thrive. This decision is just one of the ways the company upholds their promise to help their customers grow their businesses. They will continue to host educational programs and regional technology events to bring the latest developments directly to their customer base. In addition, the company plans to offer assistance to their US-based customers who are planning to attend LIGNA, the largest international woodworking exhibition, in Hannover, Germany, May 18-22, 2009. By having a wealth of options, Stiles is able to provide a solution that works best for their customers.

WEIMA America Announced as Recycling Partner for AWFS

For the first time AWFS will establish a program to help reduce the amount of wood waste generated during the show in Las Vegas July 15th – 18th. WEIMA America has been chosen as the official recycling partner for this event. WEIMA will provide a shredding system that will be in operation during show hours outside in the

dock area. During that time, the shredder will grind all of the demonstration wood scrap as well as any discarded shipping or packing materials.

Reducing the size of bulky materials to a consistency of around 2” will maximize the dumpster’s capacity. In turn, this will significantly reduce the amount of dumpsters and wood waste that will be going to landfills.

This environmental conscience approach is a great way to show the public what can be done to help save the planet. Look for the “Destroy Responsibly” message on display throughout the show. For more information please contact Vikki Van Dam at WEIMA America, Inc. 803-802-7170 or vikki.vandam@weimaamerica.com. To see a similar system set up during the 2008 IWF event please visit  www.destroyresponsibly.com.
